Kippford Village has a small craft launching jetty for access to the Solway of Firth
The English Lake District
Ullswater in the Lake District is close enough for a great day out in the Cumbrian hills
Loch Trool near Bruce's Stone
The lochs of Scotland provide some spectacular scenery
The Southern Upland Way
The longest sign-posted walking trail in Scotland stretches from coast to coast and passes through the Galloway Forest
Loch Trool
One can appreciate why we decided to settle in this part of the country as the ruggedness and beauty of Scotland is so appealing.
Brow Well
The water from this well is probably the last the poet, Robert Burns, drank, following which he plunged himself up to his armpits in the icy waters of the Solway Firth on instructions from his physician who believed that the healing properties of the well water and cold shock treatment would cure him of his fever. He died soon after!
Ruthwell Savings Bank
The cycle route to Powfoot passes by the very first savings bank in the world seen here at Ruthwell and known as the Ruthwell Savings Bank, founded by Dr Henry Duncan in 1810. It is now a museum
